Inspired by the George II era, this giltwood pier mirror features an intricate depiction of Aesop’s fable of the Fox and the Grapes—the origin of the phrase “sour grapes” in the English language.

Thomas Johnson, a highly influential 18th-century carver and gilder, was renowned for his elaborate rococo designs. His 1758 publication, A Collection of Designs, cemented his legacy and greatly influenced the artistic style of the period.
