Description
Gilded Chinoiserie Accent Table
A gilded Chinoiserie accent table crafted from ebonized mahogany, parcel gilt, and imbuya burl veneer. The square top features a hand-painted Chinoiserie landscape, accented by a gilded edge and cavetto-molded frieze. It stands on square legs with distinctive peg feet, adding unique charm.
“Chinoiserie,” derived from the French “chinois” (Chinese), refers to a style that emerged in the 18th century, blending Chinese, Japanese, and other Asian influences. At the time, China’s mysterious aura and limited access in Britain fueled the fascination with this exotic style.
