George III Style Water Gilded Mirror in Gilder’s Special Finish
This George III Style Water Gilded Mirror in Gilder’s Special Finish features a gilt and ebonised overmantel design with a rope and tassel surround. Stylised dolphins support candle shelves on either side.
Hand-carved in mahogany, the frame is water gilded in 23¾ carat gold leaf, finished with a yellow bole and highly burnished with an agate stone, creating a bright, striking finish with contrasting matt areas and black-painted details.
The original 19th century mirror commanded an estimate of $18,000 – $25,000 at auction in April 2008.
This magnificent mirror would make a commanding addition to any home, whether traditional or contemporary.
