This Water Gilded Overmantel Mirror is inspired by an original George II piece from circa 1760, which was featured in Sotheby’s Important English Furniture sale in London on 15th November 1996, with an estimated value of £20,000-£30,000.
The mirror boasts an elegant arched foliate-scrolled crest, a flame-carved surround divided by leaf and flower entwined columns, and stylized dolphins framing the bottom corners. Expertly hand-carved from mahogany, it is finished with a light, bright water gilding in gold leaf.
