Late Georgian Style Mahogany Dining Chair

This late George III mahogany dining chair is distinguished by a shaped, waisted back with serpentine uprights, which provide both support and visual interest. The chair features an overstuffed seat, designed for comfort, and is set upon elegantly moulded cabriole legs that terminate in spade feet, adding a refined touch to the overall design.

The chair is based on a design by George Seddon, a prominent furniture maker active in London around 1800. Seddon’s firm, which operated from 1753 to 1868, was one of the most significant and influential furniture makers of the late 18th century. Despite the firm’s importance, very few pieces are labelled or documented, making surviving examples highly valuable and rare.

This piece embodies the timeless craftsmanship associated with Seddon’s work, showcasing a classic Georgian design that continues to reflect the quality and elegance of the period.
